Ethereum (ETH) is a distributed ledger and decentralized computing platform with smart contract capabilities. The next upgrade, Serenity, is currently in development and includes a full rewrite and redesign, resulting in Ethereum 2.0. Phase zero of the herculean task could launch as early as January 2020.
